Port of London - River Thames NOTICE TO MARINERS No.20 of 2012 MORTLAKE REACH TO BUGSBYS REACH THAMES DIAMOND JUBILEE RIVER PAGEANT ADVANCED NOTICE OF CONTROLLED NAVIGATION AND RIVER CLOSURES The Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant taking place on Sunday 3rd June 2012 to celebrate the Queen s 60 year reign is unprecedented in scale and magnitude and so requires extraordinary measures to maintain navigational safety. On Wednesday 30th Thursday 31st May and Friday 1st June above average numbers of vessels will be arriving at West India Dock and the Upper Pool in preparation for the Pageant are likely to disrupt navigation at times during this period additional Harbour Service Launches will be in attendance to provide local traffic control if necessary. Saturday 2nd June a number of Harbour Service Launches and support vessels will attend movements of large groups of vessels from West India Dock to mustering moorings in Barn Elms Reach during the morning flood tide. During the PM ebb tide approximately 60 vessels will leave Teddington Lock and head towards the mustering mooring in Barn Elms Reach a Harbour Service launch will be in attendance and local traffic control may be established if necessary during this period. Sunday 3rd June will see a staggered river closure. From 0600 the river will be closed to navigation with the exception of pre-planned Pageant traffic movements between Oliver s Ait to Victoria Railway Bridge. At 13:30 from Victoria Railway Bridge the closure will roll downriver under control of a PLA Harbour Service Launch to Wappingness. From Wappingness the PLA DIVER will then extend the closure downriver to Greenwich. An additional PLA launch acting as Thames Barrier Closure vessel will be stationed at Blackwall Point and extend the closure down to the Thames Barrier by 14:15. PTO As the Pageant moves downriver the Harbour Service Launch stationed at Oliver s Ait will move downriver to re-open the river down to Putney by approximately 15:45. The river will re-open from Wappingness for inward bound Class V Passenger traffic only going upstream from approximately 17:45 until about 19:30. At approximately 19:30 or when the Harbour Master considers it safe the river will re-open throughout and the PLA launches at Putney Bridge and Wappingness will be stood down. Mariners should be aware that PLA launches will be in attendance with large groups of Pageant vessels which may need to institute local traffic control and all vessel should at all times proceed with caution. On Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th June the vessels in the Upper Pool and in West India Dock will depart from the River Thames and during this period additional Harbour Service Launches will be in attendance to provide local traffic control if necessary. Mariners and river users are reminded of the need at all times to keep a proper look-out by sight and by hearing and by all available means.
