The West Virginia Division of Forestry (DOF) will conduct a public tour at Kumbrabow State Forest on Saturday Nov. 12 2011. This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for a prescribed timber harvest in the forest. The harvest will enhance recreational opportunities by opening up a view shed and creating an overlook area said State Lands Manager Barbara Breshock. It also will provide for more diverse wildlife habitat in the area. The tour begins at 11 a.m. at the Kumbrabow State Forest office. Breshock encourages participants to bring substantial footwear clothing appropriate for the weather snacks and water. Breshock will lead visitors on a .5 to 1 mile hike around the old fire tower site between Meatbox Run and Potato Hole Run. The route is primarily over uneven ground in the woods and there are some hills. There are no trails along this route although some old roads are involved. If you are planning to attend please notify Breshock no later than noon on Thursday Nov. 10 so that she can arrange enough transportation for all attendees.
