Contents : Syllabus Physics 451 Spring 2008 Meets Monday Wednesday Friday @ 11:30-12:20 in Brace Lab 202 Textbook: Introduction to Electrodynamics by David J. Griffiths 3rd Edition Office Hours: Mon 12:30-2:00 and Wed 13:30-2:00 My coordinates: Office: Behlen Room 355 Email: sadenwalla1@unl.edu (I usually answer emails within 24 hours during the week-weekends take longer) Phone: 472 2709 Quiz: Every week (usually Wednesday) there will be a short (10 minute) in-class quiz. It will consist of two parts. One will cover the previous week and may include homework problems the second part will be a reading quiz on the lectures of the forthcoming week. The lowest 3 quiz grades will be dropped. Homework: Homework will be due every Monday in class. No late homework sets will be accepted. Homework sets together with the answer sheets are posted on Blackboardprint them out and please make sure all your answers are worked out on the answer sheets provided. If you find yourself spending more than 30 minutes on getting started on a single homework problem get help. Help is available via my office hours (see above). You are responsible for knowing the material on the homework. In other words the exams will assume that the HW problems have been worked on digested and understood. Exams: Midterm 1: 11th February (Monday) 11:30-12:20 Midterm 2: March 26th (Wednesday) 11:30-12:20 Midterm 3: April 23rd (Wednesday): 11:30-12:20 Final (Cumulative): May 5th (Monday) 10:00 am -noon Grading: Homework 125 points Quizzes 125 points 1st midterm 100 points 2nd midterm 100 points 3rd midterm 100 points Final (cumulative) 200 points TOTAL 750 points Math Prerequisites: Math 220 or 221. The prerequisite for that is Math 208-Analyitcal geometry and calculus III. Why is this important Because we will use all that you learnt in Math 208-read chapter 1 yourself and come to class prepared to use it! There will be short a quiz on Chapter 1 and all we have covered of Chapter 2 on Friday Jan 18th.
