We were especially touched by the great support of so many of our club members who attended the dance. Our thanks go out to the committee that asked us to be our club sweethearts this year and to Phyllis Bass for her talented poster. 2 At our February board meeting I announced the newly created position of Fundraising Chairperson and asked Evelyn Maggiore to lead this effort. We have had some successful fundraising events over the past couple of years but no individual person who would be responsible to receive the ideas from club members and then present the workable ideas to the Board. Other clubs have fundraising positions and have done quite well. With Evelyn's oolone Arrangetoo' f am confident of future successes. leadership and proven results as the We will be having our March board meeting on Thursday March l4th. If you haven't attended a board meeting in the recent pasto or have never attended a board meeting don't miss this one. Our nominating committee headed by our past president Jan Bartholomew will make their recoillmendations for club officers and appointed positions to the Board for the upcoming term beginning July 1 2013. As of this writing there are still a few elected positions to be filled including Vice President Secretary and A Square D Delegate. If you can consider one of these positions or several of the appointed positions that may be available please contact one of the nominating commiffee members Jan Bartholomew Bob Mercer or Adrienne Omansky. Remember that no elected position is officially closed until elections are completed in May but obviously it is best to get your preferences in as soon as possible. For those of you who may be concerned about the commitment of time with some of these positions let me assure you that in many cases it is far less than you may think but they are all extremely important for the future operation of our club. Please consider serving in some capacity and be involved with square dancing behind the scenes as well as on the dance floor. On the subject of elections and transitions please save Thursday May 9 20t3 as the date tentatively scheduled for our General Membership Meetingo at which time we will elect our new officers for the coming term. The date and location for our installation dinner have not been decided yet so further details will be communicated as we get closer to the date but don't miss this important evening! Look for more information in the April newsletter. Sherrie took over the Director's job from Ellen Gaines just a year and a half &go but has been an important part of Felicia Mahood for several years. Sherrie's ties to the Heels & Souls go back to when her parents were members of our club many years ago. Square dancing has been very dear to her and this has been evident by her tremendous cooperation which has helped us continue to be located at Felicia Mahood Senior Multipurpose Center as our dance venue. We wish Sherrie and her husband Jack much happiness in all their future travels and welcome her to join us as her parents once did in a squars. On the seventh session we had four squares which included 14 class members. Most of the new students are hanging in there. Without our dedicated Angels we would not be able to accommodate them. Unfortunately many of us have succumbed to one of the bugs going around. Nancy one of us who has succumbed would like to thank Amelia and Gretchen for taking charge of the kitchen during the weeks she was gone. And kudos to Dan for the coffee. A note about Larry McNamee: Though a bad leg prevents his dancing much Larry attends class nearly evsry week and cheers us on. His granddaughters who have won numy Girl Scout cookie awards must be selling them again. And Larry must be one of the shief buyers because they frequently turn up at class. Out on the dance floor one could hardly dance without bumping into your best friend. That was a good thing because it meant there were over 400 plus dancers" I was told that number was in large part due to the super sales of our own member Fredi Levitt who behind the scenes is Monderwoman!! The following Heels & Souls members were in attendance: Jerry Lrppey Nancy Babbifi Julie Pinckert Nancy Tu Harvey Kamens Phyllis Bass Lee Regberg Linda Hoffinan Rick Markeno Linda Westerschulte Howard Zager Hank Spieker Norma Spieker Art Omansky Adrienne Omansky Jan Bartholomew Liz Brown Martin Sprints Madeline Sprints Lee Polak Judy Polak Pat Neal Fredi Levitt Alan Lubberts Linda Peck Ken Pastel Dan Richman Linda Stone Ilene Martin Gretchen Lunq Lee Roozen and Marie Roozen. fr*"" t fu*M The dance rocked due to the Shakedown Band with Pat Carnathan Mike Haworth Vic Kaaria Charlie Robertson and Ty Barnes. Behind the scenes they can really play and sing. I soon found out they can really play those musical instruments and sing up fronto too. Shauna Forbush Kaaria cued when the Shakedown arrested I mean rested. Our own sweethearts Art and Adrienne readied themselves behind the scene with kisses hugs and smiles of approval. As their rurmes were called to take their walko cheers rose from the crowd especially the over 34 Heels & Souls that afiended. The cheers could be heard around the world well around the room. As they walked around the room they were suddenly stopped as the couple in front of them stopped to have their picture taken by an over zealous photographer. Art and Adrienne waited patiently without pushing or telling the "#@fia/alf' to move as they were holding up the whole show. Finally our sweethearts moved on to their first dance and everyone cheered again. Refreshments were great if you were able to see them as they rapidly disappeared as soon as they were distributed throughout the dance. My dance partner Charlie Longobart told me the secret too late. As he entered the refreshment area he saw the last sandwich standing and grabbed it before a little old lady could get it. He was glowing when he told me this. Yep. it was a greptdance! Charlie Longobart is well-known for stealing food from nice little old ladies with short arms. They were a 'twofer' -- Margaret introduced us to round dancing ('Frenchy Brown') while Monty did the 'Do Sa Do' and the 'Grand Right and Left.' Margaret died in January (of cancer) in a hospital bed but in her olur living room. Monty said that this is a hospice service that became available January I't. He addedo "My delight in having Margaret to grow old with didn't last long enougho but oh look at the decades we had!" ns&ut flIower Spaiat Aouupandmt
