Dyer Vineyard Syrah Vineyard Description Appellation Nestled in the hills of Carneros Dyer Vineyard is planted on a northwest-facing hillside receiving excellent sun exposure. The climate is relatively cool and the fruit is slow to ripen allowing for a long hang time. The soils are composed of clay loam and the slope lends itself to good drainage. The rootstock and clonal selection at this site are the perfect match for the vineyard and the flavors develop with great intensity. Nickel & Nickel produces Syrah from just four acres of this 30-acre vineyard. Carneros (Napa Valley) Year Planted 2000 Varietal Syrah Acreage 4 acres Clone & Rootstock Trellising Syrah clone 99 on the 101-14 rootstock Vertical shoot positioning (VSP) Geology This vineyard is composed of a silty clay loam derived from two soil series. The Haire soil series are moderately well drained and found on old terraces and alluvial fans depositing weathered sedimentary rock. The Cole soil series are made by alluvial fans depositing sandstone shale and volcanic rock. Tasting Notes Dark in color with aromas of violet and coffee this wine features flavors of plum and spice on the palate while the underlying earthiness of the varietal adds complexity. Coffee and roasted nuts fill the middle palate as the wine expands to reveal its rich texture and supple tannins.
