In this chapter the data on public libraries state concert agencies cultural centres state archives radio and TV companies theatres museums and cinemas are provided together with the data on publishing and printing of books magazines and newspapers. The Yearbook includes data on professional theatres only. They are registered as independent theatre companies and have the status of a legal entity where highly skilled professional actors work. In 2005 the number of visitors in 105 museums of Lithuania made up 2.7 million which is by almost one-fifth more than in 2000. The average number of visitors per museum made up 26 thousand. Over the year the number of exhibits in the museums reached 468.2 thousand (13 per cent of exhibits of the main stock). In 2000 the number of exhibits made up almost 8 per cent of exhibits of the main stock. Every fourth resident of Lithuania was visiting theatre. 32 state and private theatres performed 4 thousand plays which were visited by 826 thousand spectators. As compared with 2000 the number of spectators increased by 146 thousand or 18 per cent. In 2005 the number of cinemas in the country was 70 while in 2000 109. From 2005 the number of spectators decreased by 40 per cent in rural areas as much as 11 times: from 25.2 thousand in 2000 to 2.3 thousand in 20
