Contents : Statement to the Media Subject: Upcoming Concert Sun Moon & Stars 04 June 2006 For Immediate Release Sun Moon & Stars musical scenes from earth to the skies The Brisbane Symphonic Band the BSB Swing! and the Brisbane Voices present musical scenes from the earth to the skies in their upcoming concert Sun Moon & Stars. Join the ensembles for an afternoon of music that will truly move you with all profits supporting the Queensland Cancer Fund. Repertoire is the focus of this concert. Expect a great afternoon of music inspired by both the celestial and the earthly from the shadows of the underworld to beaches and sunlight. From the unsettling to the uplifting each ensemble has selected a program which will engage and inspire your Sunday afternoon. The 40-piece Brisbane Symphonic Band plans a program including the festive Sundance by Frank Ticheli and a musical treatment of St Francis of Assisi s poem Canticle of the Creatures by James Curnow. The Brisbane Voices a select 8 piece choir are set to lend their vocal harmonies to tunes like Fly Me to the Moon and Rainbow Connection. The BSB Swing! will have their own take on the theme with a timeless big-band sound and a program of jazz classics like Jobim s Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars. Under musical director Stefanie Smith the Brisbane Symphonic Band presents the second th in its 30 anniversary concert series. Sun Moon & Stars follows the successful Hot Latin Grooves concert held in April. The BSB is one of Brisbane s most prominent community bands having won many accolades while earning a reputation for entertaining local and international audiences alike. In recent years the band has twice successfully toured Taiwan after being invited to perform at the International Bands Festival in Chia-Yi. Brisbanites will know the band as a fixture in parks and community events around the south-east. The band is proud of its long history as one of Brisbane s premiere community ensembles and invites you to join the birthday festivities at this concert. Sun Moon & Stars will be compered by BSB founder Bernie Hoesman in the Ithaca Auditorium Brisbane City Hall on Sunday 2 July at 2pm. Join him and the bands for a great musical program with all profits going to the Queensland Cancer Fund. Gold coin entry.
