Strand Lighting Palette v3.4.2 Software Release Notes Palette/Rack Palette/Light Palette Series Consoles June 2007 Bulletin No: 2007061100 Introduction This document details changes to the Strand Lighting Palette OS software for use on the Strand Lighting Palette Light Palette and Rack Palette series of consoles. This software may be downloaded from the Strand Lighting website www.strandlighting .com. If you require assistance or have questions about upgrading your console please contact your nearest Strand Lighting Authorized Service Centre. Verifying your current software version At any time you may wish to verify what software version that you are running on the console. This can easily be done from within the Strand Lighting Palette software. To do this select the Help drop down on the tool bar and select About Palette. This will list the current software versions for the User Interface Engine and also the software version that the show was recorded in. Console Control Panel installation. 1) Download the NewShell.5.3.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto a USB memory key (a spare USB key is provided with the console for your convenience). 2) Start up your Palette software and place the USB key containing the software into the front USB port. 3) Press the Control Panel Softkey S4 to bring up the control panel and open up the Windows Explorer tool. 4) Select the USB Key connected to the front of the console (Normally the F: drive) and drag the NewShell.5.3.exe file to the Public D: drive. (note: you may need to use Copy and Paste in some cases to achieve this) 5) Navigate to the Public D: drive and verify that the software has been placed in the root of the D: drive and not in any other location. If it is not in the correct place repeat step 4 until it is. 6) Close the Windows Explorer application the Console software and shutdown the console. 7) Remove the USB key from the front of the console and power up the console again. The console will power up and detect the new software and will automatically install the new version. Once this is completed and the console has started proceed with the Console Software installation below. Console Software installation. 1) Download the Palette342.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto a USB memory key (a spare USB key is provided with the console for your convenience). 2) Start up your Palette software and place the USB key containing the software into the front USB port. 3) Press the Control Panel Softkey S4 to bring up the control panel and open up the Windows Explorer tool. 4) Select the USB Key connected to the front of the console (Normally the F: drive) and drag the Palette340.exe file to the Public D: drive. (note: you may need to use Copy and Paste in some cases to achieve this) 5) Navigate to the Public D: drive and verify that the software has been placed in the root of the D: drive and not in any other location. If it is not in the correct place repeat step 4 until it is. 6) Close the Windows Explorer application the Console software and shutdown the console. Please Note that the console MUST be powered off as new USB Firmware is being loaded in this process. 7) Remove the USB key from the front of the console and power up the console again. The console will power up and detect the new software and will install the new version. During the installation process it is possible that the Windows Firewall that is installed by default on the console will give you a warning about this software. You should select OK to this warning. Note: this warning only appears briefly on the screen of the console before the Palette OS starts. Therefore you may not have sufficient time to press the OK button. Do not worry this warning will remain on the screen behind the Palette application and you can minimize or close Palette to access it. Off Line Editor Software installation. 1) Download the PaletteOLE3.4.2.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto your Windows XP machine. 2) Launch the file by double clicking and follow the on screen instructions. (note you only need to install the USB drivers if you wish to connect the Palette USB panels to your PC.) Palette Series DMX Hardware. As part of the v3.4.x software update new firmware is loaded into the USB hardware of the Palette console. This will enable the second DMX port. The second DMX output is on the 6 pin XLR connector labeled AUX on the rear of your console. Pin Outs for the Aux connector are as follows: Pin Function DMX Pin 1 Ground 1 Ground 2 10V Not Used 3 Data + 3 Data + 4 Data - 2 Data - 5 RS232 - Not used 6 RS232 - Not used 3.4.2 11th June 2007 Bug Fixes Fix user interface crash when viewing the properties of a cue.
