To Table of Contents Research Part of our research involved going to two elementary schools and having students participate in the KWL process. The two schools that participated in the KWL process were Benchmark Elementary and Litchfield Park Elementary. The Benchmark classroom involved participation with second grade children. The Litchfield Park KWL process involved participation from fourth grade special needs children who are considered developmentally equivalent to a second or third grader. The students were interested in the discussion about primates and seemed interested in learning more. Brainstorming was used to develop concepts and ideas on the topic of primates. This process provided a forum to openly explore all avenues of the topic. The information gleaned from the brainstorming session provided information that assisted in the development of our lesson plans. A professional resource was gained through Christine In-Albon who is a middle school science teacher in Tucson Arizona. She routinely develops curriculum for her school and began a program to incorporate thematic instruction at her school. Her education was received at the To Table of Contents To Table of Contents University of Arizona and resulted in a Masters Degree in Evolutionary Biology and Marine Biology. To Table of Contents
